On Sunday February 11, the Montreal Science Centre will take part in the International Day of Women and Girls of Science with its Women & Science (Science au féminin in French) event! Meet representatives from TandemLaunch, Suometry, Wavelite, C2RO and IRYStec from 10 am!
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was adopted by the United Nations to help achieve the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities. It was first celebrated in 2016.
The goal of the Montreal Science Centre event is to inspire and promote the participation of women and girls in science. Exhibitors include Ubisoft Montreal Studio, the Canadian Space Agency, Element AI, CGI, as well as TandemLaunch and its portfolio companies:
- Suometry, represented by Jean-Nicola Blanchet and Phuc-Tue Le Dinh from 10 am to 11:30 am, will help attendees get familiar with VR;
- Wavelite, represented by Bahar Partov from 11:30 am to 1 pm, will provide insights into IoT and clean technology (they recently won the CES Climate Change Innovator Award!);
- C2RO, represented by Alex Gaughan from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, will explain how AI can be used for collaborative cloud robotics;
- IRYStec, represented by Tara Akhavan from 2:30 pm to 4 pm, will present their perceptual display solutions.
“When I heard about the event, I knew right away we needed to be part of it. We need more role models that girls and young women can identify to, and they need to appear earlier on in their lives so that tech and science are options they consider at pivotal moments in their education and career.” explains Natacha Mainville who will be sharing her career and experience with the attendees over the whole day.
Encouraging more girls and women to pursue careers in technology and science is a cause close to TandemLaunchers’ heart. Last year for instance, we used International Women’s Day as an opportunity to celebrate our women entrepreneurs (see video below) with the hope that it inspires more ambitious entrepreneurial people to launch their companies and be proud of who they are.
In addition to meeting exhibitors at the Montreal Science Center, attendees will be able to attend interactive scientific presentations and participated to entertaining practical workshops.
Tickets are $15/person except for girls 18 and under for whom admission is free.
See you then!
